MTG Writing Challenge: April

Writing prompts are fantastic for pushing you out of your comfort zone, or helping you write when you can’t push through a block on a project. Often, a completely random piece will turn into something instrumental to continuing a WIP. Besides, all practice is good practice.

I see a lot of writing prompts on the web. They can be single words, short phrases, dialogue, full concepts: you name it, and someone is giving ideas for it.

BUT what about Magic: The Gathering cards?

I recently retrieved my collection from storage, and have been on a slight bender building decks, organising my cards, and falling in love all over again with the designs. The reason I initially got into MTG was the artwork. Grand sweeping landscapes, bizarre fantastical beasts, and incredible mystical architecture. Everything about it feels innovative and captivating.

So what would be better to inspire you to write?

I’ll be posting a prompt once a month, and the prompts will be a selection of magic cards. You can use the image, the abilities, or the quote; whatever grabs you. There is no wrong interpretation or expression. Short fiction, poetry, comic strip, or anything else you’re inspired to create: the prompt is about you. This month, I’ll post three random cards from my collection. You can choose one or many, play it your way.

If you take the prompts, I’d love to read them to please tag me or send them my way! I’m going to be trying to come up with something as well, so keep an eye out – the cards were picked at random, so I am going into this blind as well.
